Abstract

Pumping system for dispensing small quantities of fluid, e.g. 2-3 litres per hour of a food prod. ingredient or chemical additive comprises a multiway solenoid valve operated by a cycle timer. The valve first opens a passage which allows fluid to flow from a source of supply into a pumping cylinder by displacing a piston. The valve is then switched to allow the cylinder to be emptied into a delivery line by return of the piston. The return of the piston can be by relaxation of a loaded spring or by fluid being directed onto the other side of the piston which is double-acting. The cycle time is pref. regulated and the displacement of the piston adjusted. The system cannot overfeed.
