Abstract
A method of rapidly and efficiently charging a battery comprising the steps of: (a) supplying electrical power to the battery for charging; (b) monitoring a characteristic of the battery that varies with the state of charge of the battery, determining at least periodically the value of said characteristic;º calculate the slope of said characteristic with respect to time; (d) comparing consecutive values of slope to identify a point of inflection in the variation of said characteristic with respect to time; and (e) controlling the power supply to the battery based on the time of occurrence of said inflection point.
