Abstract

The spigot and socket pipe joint inc. a ring seal (2), and has a bayonet connection. A nominal taper forms a socket (1a) with a flared mouth. This has a circumferential bore groove (1b) for the seal (2) with two in line square bore (1c) pins at an axial interval. The socket (1d), has a nominally in-turned lip, and a barrel groove (1e) of 'F' shape with the arms returning squarely down (1glf). The main leg (1e) of the 'F' is parallel to the longitudinal pipe axis, and the groove width exceeds that of the studs, the axial bar interval equalling that of the studs. The connection is made by sliding the spigot into the socket with the studs (1c) in the main groove leg (1e), a relative rotation followed by a short retraction then locating the studs in the groove returns (1g, 1f).
