Abstract

Appts. includes a first endless belt trained over the major part of a suction drum which is the fixing drum and over which the web to be fixed is passed. The web leaving the drum passes to a similar drum and endless belt arrangement, whereby the steam chest is replaced by cooling chamber from which issues the supercooled or liquefied nitrogen. Pref. the nitrogen is sprayed with the aid of nozzles. Nozzles are pref. arranged to face in the direction opposite to that of the web movement. The drum periphery may be surrounded by a thermally insulated jacket and the drum interior is exhausted by a fan. Liquid nitrogen may be sprayed into the air which is used for cooling the webs.
