Abstract

A photoelectric device follows the profile of a template and generates an electric output signal representative of the profile for controlling a profile copying machine. Head 4 for engaging and following the profile to be copied is mounted on arm 2 pivotally displaceable with respect to a datum axis running through the device's axis of symmetry. Light reflector 11 is carried on and displaceable with the arm to deflect light beam 10 from a zero position on a photosensitive element 6 which generates an electric output signal representative of such displacement. Light beam 8 is directed parallel to the axis and is deflected and directed along the axis by fixed prism system 9, 13 through which the reflected light beam 12 passes to photosensitive element 6 which is disposed on the axis. Transparent plates 15, 16 are angularly adjustable about mutually perpendicular axes to initially centre the reflected beam on the zero position of the photosensitive element. Further photosensitive device 24 provides a measure of the intensity thereof and can be used to control the light source 7.
