Abstract
Heat transfer fluid, esp. for use in planar solar energy collectors, consists of aliphatic satd. branched 12-18C hydrocarbonn(s) (I) with a b.pt. of 235-290 degrees C. (I) pref. is a hydrogenated pentamer (Ia) of propylene and can be mixed with up to 60 vol. % dicyclohexane (II). Fluid does not corrode most metals and elastomers and has a fire point above 100 degrees C. (II) reduces the viscosity and crystallisation point, without detriment to the fire point and b.pt. The fluid is also useful for cooling engines. It is compatible with energy-storing materials, e.g. hydrated inorganic salts and their eutectic mixts.
