Abstract

The system manufactures thread-like components of set length, a jet of metal or alloy in liq. form being projected by gas press. into a cooling medium whose temp. is lower than its solidification temp. The components are obtd. by severing the jet, and this can be done at a point where metal temp. is as near as possible to the solidification temp. Severing can be effected by mechanical cutting, an electric arc, or a laser beam. A gas at higher speed than that of the jet can be injected concentrically to it into an annular passage enclosing it. Severing can alternatively be effected by varying impulses of the gas press. projecting the jet.
