Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce an excellent thermocouple, while simplifying the works, by preparing a thermocouple having the same sheath contour and by subsequently cover the leading end so that the diameter of the sheath may be gradually reduced.
CONSTITUTION: Long thermocouple wires, which are prepared by burying a plurality of thermocouple material wirew in a cylindrical insulator and by convering the insulator with a metal sheath, are cut to a suitable length (at A). An insulator 3 is taken out up to a suitable depth from the leading cut end 9 to form a recess 10, and the exposed end portions of thermocouple material wires 1 and 2 are jointed to from a thermal contact 5 (at B). An onsulator 6 is filled while leaving a small recess at the leading end portion of the recess 10 (at C), and a welding rod 11 of sealing metal is welded to the leading end of the metal sheath 4 by means of an arc electrode 12 and is covered with a cover 7 (at D). Reducing treatment is accomplished into a hat shape from the leading end portion by means of a forging machine or a compressing machine thereby to produce a thermocouple end protion (E) which is gradually taperaed to the leading end. The bulk of the insulators 6 and 3, which are filled between the metal sheath 4, the cover 7 and the thermal contact 5, is also gradually compressed to have a larger density.
