Abstract

The wiere dregs are treated by putting them into pellet form eliminating alcohol and recovering the alcohol from the liquor extracted, roasting the residue and grinding it, continuously forming a suspension of the residue in hot water or aq. mineral acid solns. and then recovering calcium tartrate from the suspension. The putting pellet form enables direct removal of the alcohol without dilution. The roasting step results in a coagulation of the yeasts, colloidal substances and colourants making them insoluble thereby avoiding pollution by having a reject liquor with a high B.O.
