Abstract

Un método de eliminar una corriente de volumen variable de desecho radiactivo acuoso, que comprende: calentar el desecho hasta que se evapora el componente acuoso, hacer pasar en serie los vapores y cualesquiera gotitas de agua radiactiva retenidas, a una gama de velocidades variable, a través de una pluralidad de separadores de gotitas de líquido que tienen áreas de sección transversal decrecientes en la dirección de circulación del vapor, variando con dicho volumen de corriente variable la velocidad a la que dichos vapores y dichas gotitas de agua radiactiva retenidas pasan a través de dichos separadores de gotitas de agua, teniendo uno de dichos separadores de gotitas de agua un área de sección transversal relativamente pequeña que es sumamente eficaz para retirar gotitas de agua radiactiva cuando la velocidad del vapor está en el extremo bajo de dicha gama, y teniendo otro de dichos separadores de gotitas de agua un área de sección transversal relativamente grande que es sumamente eficaz para retirar gotitas de agua radiactiva cuando la velocidad del vapor está en el extremo alto de dicha gama, retirar vapores descontaminados, hacer retornar las gotitas de agua radiactiva al desecho que se está calentando y extraer agua de desecho concentrada radiactiva para la eliminación.
