Abstract

Perfeccionamientos introducidos en una instalación de horno que funciona por calentamiento eléctrico directo según el principio de resistencia, particularmente para la producción de carburo de silicio a partir de dióxido de silicio y carbono en funcionamiento intermitente, realizándose la alimentación de corriente por medio de electrodos a través de un núcleo de resistencia de material que contiene carbono, cuyo núcleo está incrustado horizontalmente en el lecho de fusión constituido por una mezcla de coque granular, arena de cuarzo y aditivos , caracterizados porque los electrodos de dicha instalación de horno están dispuestos uno al lado de otro, ascendiendo a por lo menos 0,8 la relación de la mitad de la longitud del núcleo de resistencia a la distancia entre electrodos.
