Abstract

Cosmetic composition for smoothing the human skin with softening effect on the horny layers of the skin and for treating and controlling hyperkeratotic states. Besides the softening effect on thickened and hardened horny layers, the composition brings about hydration of the skin and acts as a protective for retention of the skin's own amino acids so that it is suitable as a protective against the effects of weather conditions and of detergents and washing agents. The composition contains, besides the conventional cosmetic ingredients and, where appropriate, a sunscreen agent, as active, skin-softening component urea in an amount of 1 - 5% by weight and, as stabiliser for the urea, not more than 10% by weight, based on the urea, of a stable, odour-neutral, non-volatile physiologically tolerated aliphatic dicarboxylic acid which has low solubility in a lipid phase, and the composition has a pH in the range 4 - 7. The content of stabiliser means that, in any form, the cosmetic composition is stable and can be stored without a change of state for a long period.
