Abstract

An electroactive volatile material dissolved in a liquid is detected by a) bringing the liquid into contact with an inert gas stream and then b) bringing the inert gas stream into contact with the electrolyte of an electrochemical detector the detector responds to the presence of an electroactive volatile substance. The appliance for carrying out this detection comprises a) a device for bringing the gas and the liquid into contact, b) an electrochemical detector and c) a device for bringing the electrolyte of the detector into contact with the gas. The method and the appliance can be employed for monitoring and/or controlling a desired state in a reaction medium.
