Procedure for preparing tetrahydrobenzo [5] thienylureas and tetrahydro-7-oxobenzo [b] thienylureas, of the formula **(See formula)** wherein R1 and R2 are each hydrogen or an alkyl group having up to 4 carbon atoms and ü is the group -CH2- or (see formula), characterized in that it comprises reacting a molar equivalent of a compound of formula **(See formula)** or an acid addition salt thereof, wherein U is defined as above, with from about 1 to 1.2 molar equivalents of a compound of formula **(See formula)** wherein X is halogen or amino, with the proviso that when X is amino R1 and R2 must both be hydrogen and when X is halogen R1 and R2 must both be lower alkyl, in the absence or presence of an inert solvent and at a temperature comprised between 0 and 50ºC approximately.
