Abstract
Improvements in the construction of plastic ball valve assemblies, especially for underground natural gas distribution pipelines, characterized in that each assembly is provided with a valve body, which includes a main body section and body sections arranged in opposite position, one of the end sections being separately connected to the main body section, the end sections having flow passages thereof, and the main body section having a central chamber of the valve, defining the steps of flow and the valve chamber a fluid flow path through the body, the first of the end sections and the main body section having fusible annular surfaces projecting thereon; a ball member in the valve chamber having a through hole, the ball being able to rotate between an open position, where the hole communicates with the flow passages to allow fluid flow between them and a closed position in the that the sphere disconnects the flow passages to prevent the flow of fluid between them; means for rotating the sphere; a first seat element contained in the valve chamber by a seat retainer adjacent to the other of the end sections, the ball member being in continuous contact with the first seat element; support face means in the main body section and the first of the end sections adjacent to the projecting surfaces; a second seat element retained by a seat retainer having separate surfaces with which the support means come into contact, these separated surfaces having an axial length between them less than the space between the support face means in initial assembly, the second seat element being able to contact the sphere, the projecting surfaces being fused and compressed to hold the second seat retainer in a fixed manner and to establish a pre-load between the seat elements and the sphere, and convenient mounted dimensional relationships.
