Abstract

An improved method of accentuating the biodegradability of halogenated diphenylmethanes in the use of certain of said halogenated diphenylmethanes having optional alkyl substitution as dielectric fluids, heat transfer fluids, hydraulic fluids, plasticizers or dye solvents, wherein the improvement comprises prohibit any substitution on a phenyl ring to thereby obtain halogenated defenylmethanes represented by the structure. **(See formula)** wherein each X is individually chlorine, bromine, or fluorine; n is an integer from 1 to 4; each R is individually an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms; and m is zero or an integer from 1 to 3.
