Abstract
Method and apparatus for coating a surface of a metallic substrate with a layer of lubricant material, a method characterized in that it comprises forming a plurality of zonally divided particles of lubricant, the particles of which have a ratio of diameter to weight necessary to remain in suspension in an atmosphere virtually at rest; confining said particles in suspension adjacent to the metal substrate to be coated; electrically loading said particles to the degree necessary so that they can repel each other while in suspension; and depositing said particles on the metallic surface while the particles maintain said repulsion relation with each other, whereby the particles are deposited on the substrate maintaining a lateral displacement relation between them.
