Abstract

Apparatus for controlling the oscillation of the arm of a backhoe loader or the like having an oscillating element mounted so as to be able to perform an oscillating movement from one side to the other, having a driving device connected to the oscillating element so that the latter oscillates in opposite directions in response to fluid flow in opposite directions to and from the drive device, and a system for controlling the flow to and from the drive device, including the system: at least one pair of pipes to drive the fluid to and from the drive device; said oscillating element responding to the flow of the fluid to the actuator in one of said pipes to oscillate in one direction, and responding to the flow of the fluid to the actuator in the other of said pipes, oscillating in the opposite direction; a first valve which is a pressure reducing valve which controls one of said pipes, said pressure reducing valve being able to be operated to limit the pressure applied to the driving device through said pipe, at a predetermined maximum pressure value; and a second valve which is a metering valve that can be operated to allow fluid to flow from said actuator through said other pipe during oscillating movement of the oscillating motion only when there is a predetermined minimum pressure in one of said pipes.
