Abstract

Procedure for preparing phenolic molding compounds, characterized in that it comprises the steps of: (a) contacting phenol, formaldehyde and a hydraulic cement of which at least 10% is Portland cement, in such proportions that the molar ratio of formaldehyde to phenol is at least 1: 1 and that the weight of the hydraulic cement is 1 to 9 times the sum of the weight of the water charged to the mixture and 3/5 the weight of the formaldehyde charged to the mixture; (b) Conforming the resulting composition to a predetermined configuration; and (c) Maintain the composition in the default settings until an infusible or insoluble article is formed by condensation.
