Abstract

Refinements introduced into a nozzle for spraying liquid under pressure into the atmosphere, and which is intended to achieve cooling, aeration, condensation, humidification or separation of dissolved or entrained gases, comprising, in combination: a nozzle for projecting liquid in an ascending path to the atmosphere; conduit means, provided with an outlet end for supplying liquid under pressure to the nozzle, said conduit means having an inner tubular wall member, of fixed diameter in its entire axial extension, next to said outlet end and in the part from the nozzle, in order to form a tubular sheet of liquid; an inverted conical wall member, having a discharge end and an inlet end, said inlet end being located upstream of the outlet end of said conduit means; said conical wall discharge end is provided with an abrupt discharge edge with a diameter greater than the internal diameter of said tubular wall member; said conical wall inlet end is located upstream from the outlet end of said conduit means, at a certain distance, and is of sufficient diameter to form and conduct a conical sheet of liquid on the surface of said conical wall member, towards the discharge end; said conical wall member is spaced from the outlet end of the duct means to form a hole therewith having a hydraulic hole area substantially less than the hydraulic cross-sectional area of said duct means, to increase the ratio between the dynamic pressure and static pressure of the liquid in such an orifice; said outlet end of the conduit means is provided with an abrupt discharge edge, separated from said conical wall, in a position and with a diameter such that the liquid tubular sheet formed in said inner tubular wall will intersect the conical sheet of liquid at a location in said conical wall member, upstream of and adjacent to said discharge end, to create turbulence in the resulting stream so that it breaks as droplets when projected into the atmosphere, and means for supplying liquid to said nozzle at pressures sufficient to project the current discharged from the nozzle into the atmosphere.
