Abstract

Process for the manufacture of monoaxially stretched sheet tapes from thermoplastic synthetic materials, in particular polypropylene, in which a sheet of synthetic material produced by the extrusion process is divided into sheet tapes that, in at least two stages of stretching at at a temperature above ambient temperature and below the melting temperature of crystallites, they are monoaxially oriented, thermally stabilized and, if necessary, wound on winding bodies, characterized in that in the successive stretching steps the temperature is increased of elongation from one stretching stage to another, the elongation temperature acting in the first stage of stretching on the sheet tape which is sufficient to carry out an elongation of a single stage, with the chosen ratio of total elongation, and being adapted in the subsequent stretching steps the elongation temperature to each case to the superior temperature resistance of the sheet tape corresponding to the highest degree of orientation, and because the thermal stabilization of the sheet tape elongated is carried out after elongation at a temperature between approximately 20ºC and 30ºC below the crystallite melting point of the synthetic material, while allowing a certain degree of shrinkage.
