Abstract

Textile materials consisting of or comprising keratin fibres are finished using a prepolymer. The prepolymer cures on the textile material by reaction of its free or blocked isocyanate groups, and it additionally has urea groupings. The prepolymer is the reaction product of an excess free isocyanate addition product with an amino compound which has in its molecule only a single grouping of the formula -NH- or -NH2- capable of reacting with an isocyanate group of the reaction product to bond the amine via a urea grouping. Even after the finish is cured, this amine is bonded to the polymer via the urea grouping. The finish of the invention makes possible to confer on keratin fibre textile material the desired shrinkage resistance without affecting the soft handle.
