Abstract

Apparatus for depositing a luminescent coating on a cathode ray tube faceplate 24, Fig. 2, by dispensing a quantity of phosphor slurry into the faceplate and rotating the faceplate to remove excess slurry centrifugally into a surrounding collection pan, is characerised by the provision of two different sized collection pans adapted for use with different sizes of faceplate. Fig. 2. illustrates the larger pan 23 in the operative position with the smaller pan 22 latched in the raised inoperative position the smaller pan is provided with a spout 27a which always lies within the larger pan which has a spout 27b adapted to drain into a funnel 28. The larger pan can be used with a 25" faceplate 24d or with 22" faceplate 24c (shown in phantom), and similarly the smaller pan can be used with either 17" or 19" faceplates. The pans are located at one of several processing stations to which the faceplates are conveyed in turn by a carrier 45 mounted on a stationary support 44 by rollers 59. The size of the faceplate is indicated by a flag 52a adapted to engage one or none of the three switches 53a-53c which in turn control the selection of the collection pan and the programme of times and speeds at which the faceplate is rotated by means of the motor 55. The apparatus may be used for processing screens for colour television tubes.
