Abstract
Process for preparing concentrated trixotropic herbicidal compositions, comprising at least 10% by weight of a herbicidal bipyridylium quaternary cation, of formula: ** (See formula) ** wherein R and R1, which may be the same or different, each represent an alkyl or alkenyl radical with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, which may be substituted by a hydroxy, alkoxy, alkylcarbonyl, alkoxycarbonyl, carbamoyl or carbamoyl radical. N-alkyl-substituted or a halogen atom; [X] n- represents an anion; and n is an integer from 1 to 4 inclusive; characterized in that it comprises mixing an aqueous solution of the herbicidal bipyridylium salt with xanthan gum and then adding a salt to convert the aqueous mixture into a gel by forming chemical bonds between the borate anion and the hydroxyl groups of the xanthan gum, thereby crosslinking the polysaccharide chains of the xanthan gum.
