Abstract

Process for the manufacture of paints, characterized in that it comprises dispersing a pigment or mixture of pigments in the presence of a dispersant copolymer, comprising units derived from the following ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the proportions indicated by weight with respect to the total weight of the copolymer; (a) 0-50% of a monomer containing hydroxy groups, and/or (b) 0-20% of a monomer containing amide groups, provided that at least 5% of (a) or (b) is always present, (o) 20-80% of a monomer free from carboxyl groups and containing a straight or branched chain alkyl group with 7 to 22 carbon atoms, and (d) 0-50% of 1 or more free monomers of the groups mentioned in (a), (b) or (c), 100% of the total monomers; and then combining the dispersion thus obtained with a film-forming polymer appropriate to the paint.
