Abstract

Pigment dispersions for paper coating compositions are prepared by adding maleic anhydride copolymers of the formula I given in Claim 1 as dispersants. The pigment dispersions are stabilised over a wide viscosity range, independently of the pH, by this addition. An example of a particularly suitable maleic anhydride copolymer is propylene/maleic acid half-amide.
