Abstract
Mejoras introducidas en el objeto de la Patente principal nº 393.290 solicitada el 15 de julio de 1971, por un "procedimiento para reducir el contenido total de azufre de gases residuales o de escape de un proceso Claus", en el que dichos gases residuales que contienen sulfuro de hidrógeno y dióxido de azufre, se hacen pasar a una temperatura superior a 175ºC, junto con hidrógeno y mónoxido de carbono a través de un catalizador constituido por un metal del Grupo VI y/o Grupo VIII sustentado sobre un soporte constituido por un óxido inorgánico para reducir el dióxido de azufre a sulfuro de hidrógeno, y los gases residuales así tratados se ponen en contacto seguidamente con un adsorbente o un absorbente para separar el sulfuro de hidrógeno de dichos gases, según las cuales la cantidad de hidrógeno y monóxido de carbono requerida para la reducción está al menos sustancialmente presenta ya en el gas residual del proceso Claus por la adición de hidrocarburos y/o dióxido de carbono al proceso Claus en el que se originan los gases residuales.
