Abstract
A method of making submarine coaxial cable of the type comprising an inner conductor, a dielectric surrounding the inner conductor, a metal tape constituting the tube-shaped return conductor with a longitudinal seal formed around the dielectric overlapping the longitudinal edges of the tape and a plastic outer jacket on the return conductor comprising the steps of heating the return conductor by radio frequency energy before or after application of the jacket, while applying external pressure to the partially formed cable to melt the surface outside of the dielectric and bringing the inner surface of the return conductor and the outer surface of the dielectric into closer contact, thus reducing the presence of air between them.
