Abstract
Fe ores or -concentrates are introduced at several positions always in direction of a tangent or secant into a cyclone chamber with near-horizontal axis cooled by water-evaporation at >=10 atm. pressure, and reacted with O2-rich gases and without appreciable fuel addition so that a roasting charge is obtained having a 1:(1-1.15) average atomic Fe:O ratio. - Pref. Fe ores or concentrates are converted above 1600 degrees C, pref. with gases contg. (35-50)% O2, pref. pre-heated. - Product consists of roasting charge contg. 1% S and >75% FeO, useful as (i) direct blast-furnace fed, pref. after coarsely regidifying melt in water-bath (ii) sinter-mixtures, pref. after collecting melt in hearth, and granulating in a water-trough to fine-grained, dust-free mixture.
