Abstract
Coarse KCl crystals are produced by direct decompsn. of crushed starting material with high carnallite content by (1) prepn. of slurry of crushed starting material and highly conc. MgCl2 soln. (2) passing slurry into crystalliser, to which liquid or soln. needed for decompsn. of starting material is added continuously (3) stirring mixture intensively, amount of circulating liquid being much greater than fresh amount added and tendency of carnallite to decompose and of KCl to crystallise reduced (4) maintaining KCl seed concn. of 10-40, pref. 15-30wt.-% of solids in slurry in crystalliser (5) continuously depositing KCl crystals of size corresp. to -80 to -150 mesh/in. so that considerable amount of crystals corresp. to +50 mesh/in. are formed and (6) removing crystals corresp. to +50 mesh/in.
