A method of forming a multi-color image comprising treating a multi-layered, photographic, color material exposed to an image, according to a color inversion process, as defined in the specification, in which the first developer has a pH in the range of 9.1 to 9.6, contains at least 1.5 grams per liter of hydroquinone and contains at least 0.5 grams per liter of 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidone or at least 1 gram per liter of a substituted 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidone at position 4.
