Abstract

A process for producing authentic stainless steels, characterized in that it comprises the steps of a) obtaining a steel by fusion, in an electric furnace, of a load consisting of scrap metal, a high carbon content Fe-Cr alloy, metallic copper and flux, subjecting said charge to temperature-controlled desulfurization and then passing said desulfurized charge to a converter for oxygen-blown decarbonization; b) obtaining another steel by fusion, in an electric furnace, of a charge consisting of a low carbon Fe-Mn alloy and a Fe-Si alloy, and subjecting said charge to deoxidation by the addition of aluminum; c) gather the steels obtained by operations a) and b) in order to produce a steel that contains, as essential ingredients, 0.05-0.15% C; 0.3-1.0% Si; 13.0-16.0% Cr; 4.2-12.0% Mn; 0.5-3.0% Ni and 0.05-0.20% N, the balance being Fe; d) hot setting the steel thus obtained with normalization at 1200-1300ºC, roughing and hot rolling; e) collecting the configured product at 1050-1150ºC; f) pickling it with a mixture of hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid and g) cold rolling it and then subjecting it to a new annealing and, eventually, to new rolling, annealing and pickling operations to give the steel the fully authentic phase that it presents in its final state.
