Abstract

An electric machine comprises stator poles mounted inside a ferromagnetic metal casing 1, a rotor 7 having a winding connected to a commutator 8, the end of the rotor adjacent the commutator being mounted in a bearing 2 by a bearing bush 32, Fig. 4 (not shown), the bush being seated partly in the bearing and partly in an annulus (33) located between the bearing and a brush-holder 19 which is attached to one side of the bearing, there being attached to the opposite side of the bearing a member 20 for mounting the machine on a support. In the motor shown, the member 20, bearing 2 and brush-holder 19 are secured together by rivets 17, 18. The stator poles may be coils or permanent magnets. The brush-holder is made of synthetic resin material and includes two diametrically opposed brush boxes (23, 24), the brush springs (25) being held in the boxes by stoppers (26) resiliently mounted in the boxes. The member 20 may have integrally formed studs 21 for securing the machine to support or may have apertures to receive studs on the support. One, 5, of the bolts, 4, 5, securing the bearings 2, 3, to the casing, also supports an insulating mounting 9 for the supply leads 13. The mounting 9 comprises two parts 10, 14, of rubber or synthetic resin material, the part 10 having two parallel grooves 11, 12, each having an enlarged region 11a, 12a, for receiving the insulation surrounding the core of a supply lead and a region 11b, 12b, for receiving the core itself. The parts 11c, 12c, receive members for connecting the leads to the brushes. The leads. are clamped in position by the bolt 5 securing the part 14 to the part 10.
