Abstract

A small bore heat exchange roller 10 is provided at one end of the bore 18 with an exchange fluid supply and exhaust arrangement consisting of a rotary joint 50 with supply and exhaust pipes 54, 52 connected to an outer annular duct 46 and an axial duct 44 in an end fitting 26 secured in the bore 18. The end portion 28 of member 26 has a diameter slightly less than that of bore 18 and carries sealing rings 34 and an axial pipe 32 connected with supply duct 46 and is also formed with an opening 42 adjacent the bore periphery 20 and connected to exhaust duct 44. The axial pipe 32 carries a series of square supports whose corners engage the bore surface 20, Fig. 5 (not shown), and may be fitted with supply nozzles along its length. The heat exchange fluid may be steam or hot or cold water.
