Abstract

It has been suggested to charge coke ovens with preheated coal to reduce the coking period. This has so far not found a practical application owing to difficulties in transporting the hot coal. The method reduces the coking period and the problem of transporting the hot coal is solved by filling the retorts through two channels from conveyor belts or transporting worms through measuring vessels. These are positioned at the bunker side of the conveyor. The feeding channels leading from the conveyor have a shutting off device and are branched into two arms, ending at the filler openings of two adjacent retorts. At the branching point, a control member regulates the amount of coal passing into the individual retort. In an extension of each branch channel is a device for operating the filler lid.
