Abstract

cis-Compounds of the general formula (R1 = m- or p-halobenzyl, R2 = H, alkyl, aryl) are prepared by (a) ring-closing a threo-compound of the formula or (b) reacting a cis-compound of the formula with Nal and heating the resulting threo-iodoamide. The product may be hydrolysed to afford an erythro.compound of the formula optionally followed by salt formation and/or resolution. The starting materials for process (a) are prepared as follows (base NaNH 2 , product cis) (product threo Z = Cl, Br, I) (product cis) (product threo), followed by acylation. The .starting materials for process (f) are prepared as follows: (both compounds cis), followed by acylation. The preparation of 3-(p-chlorobenzyloxy)- benzaldehyde is described.
