Erythro compounds of the general formula (R<SP>1</SP>=m- or p-halobenzyl) and their acid addition salts are prepared by reacting a threo compound of the formula (R<SP>2</SP> = H, alkyl or aryl) with a mineral acid, optionally followed by salt formation.
