Abstract
A separator envelope for a lead-acid battery is made of modacrylic fibres. As shown in Fig. 4 the separator 10a is formed from a tubular weave having vertical cords 23, the open ends of the tubular sheath being transversely joined at 24 and 25 to enclose positive plate 30. The separator is woven from modacrylic filaments which are thermally shrunk and hardened to ensure that the separator fits the plate. In the battery only alternate plates are fitted with a separator.
