Abstract
An anchor cable having tensile members 14, Fig. 2, surrounded by a movable corrosion preventive sheath 16, has said sheathing 16 stripped from an end portion 17 of the cable Fig. 1, and a protective surround 18 bonded to said end portion 17 the protective surround 18 extending from the sheath 16. The protective surround 18 may be a corrugated sheath filled with a resin or a cement grout or other bonding agent. Fig. 1 shows how the end portion 17 is secured in a hole in the ground by a substantially continuous mass of grout 25 that is firmly bonded to the protective surround 18 and extends over the sheathing 16. The cable illustrated has seven strands 14 each comprising seven wires 15 coated with a de-bonding agent such as grease, each strand having a sheath 16 that is movable on said de-bonding agent. Spacer tubes 20 are located at intervals along the sheathing of the centre strand. The tubes 20 are held in place by hairpin shaped bindings 21 at each end of each tube 20, the bindings 21 extending about the centre and a pair of diametrically opposite strands. An adhesive, polyvinyl chloride, binding tape 24 is bound round the seven strands 14 at the locations of the spacer tubes 20.
