Abstract
921,005. Supporting cables. PIRELLI S.p.A. Oct. 10, 1961 [Nov. 15, 1960], No. 36335/61. Class 36. An anchorage for an insulatingly sheathed armoured cable laid in a conduit comprises a sleeve cast from hardenable resin around the cable at a region from which the sheath has been removed to expose subjacent armour, and means for fixing the sheath relatively to the mouth of the conduit. As described, the armouring comprises transverse armour tapes 5 and 6 wound around a longitudinal armour tape 4 and covered by a polyethylene or P.V.C. sheath 7. At the region where the sleeve is to be formed the sheath is removed and the exposed part of one armoured tape 6 is replaced by a wire 10, their ends being either soldered together or each soldered to the subjacent armour 4. The sleeve is preferably formed of ethoxylinic-type resin, hardenable in the cold state to which may be added, if required, suitable fillers or hardening agents. The resin sleeve is cast in a mould and after hardening adheres to the armour and the two ends of the cut sheath. The mould forms a recess on the outer surface of the sleeve which provides a bearing surface for members 12, 13 adapted to be clamped around the sleeve by means of bolt 14 and plates 15, the latter preventing transverse movement of the cable. The member 12 is extended to constitute a fixing bracket.
