Abstract
In a paternoster type conveyer, containers 3 are pivotally supported between a pair of endless chains 1 by rockers 2 pivotally mounted on the chains by a spindle 7 and having counterweights (11), (12), Fig. 4 (not shown), to maintain an empty rocker in a horizontal disposition and arms 9, 10 to engage in loops 14 on the container. The containers are discharged from the conveyer at a desired discharge station by an arm 16 normally held in an inoperative position, Fig. 2 (not shown), by a catch 19 but released, on actuation of an electromagnet 31 by a code reading device (not shown) positioned upstream of the station to extend, under the action of a spring 22 and a damper 29, into the path of the container. A rocking lever 25 and a safety rake 26 are also released into the path of the container by the movement of the arm 16. The arm 16 has a lug 28 for engagement with a recess (13) on the arm 9 to draw the container laterally as the arm 16 is swung downwardly under the weight of the container, such movement further serves through the abutment of a wheel 24 on the arm 16 with the rocking lever 25 to retract said lever which guides the base of the container during its discharge. The return movement of the arm 16 in combination with the continued movement of the chains 1 results in the disconnection of the rocker 2 from the container, which then pivots to a horizontal position wherefrom it may engage a container at a loading station a to repeat the cycle.
