Abstract

In a glass fibre sheet forming apparatus the fibre is retained on an endless conveyer belt 32 by a pair of endless structures 54 vertically disposed at the opposite edges of the conveyer 32. Each structure 54 comprises a plurality of slats 56 attached by bolts 56, to an upper endless chain 58 and by tab 114 and slot 120, to a lower endless chain 60. Alternate slats mount at their upper end, a wheel 92 to engage a support surface 94 and the other slats mount, at their lower end, a wheel 102 to engage a guide track 108. The support surface 94 and the track 108 are secured to a frame 126 mounting drive sprockets 62 for the chains 58, 60 and which is suspended by wheels 130 from a track 132 whereby to move transversely of the conveyer 32 to vary the width of the glass fibre sheet. A seal 134 is provided at the junction of the lower end of the slats 56 and the endless belt 32. The slats 56 are cleaned by a water nozzle 70 and dried by a squeegee 84.
