Abstract

A repeater amplifier is provided with both current and voltage feedback from the output to the emitter of the first transistor of the amplifier. The emitter resistor, which may be an incandescent lamp or a thermistor, is controlled, e.g. by a pilot signal, to control the gain of the amplifier. In order to increase the gain variation while maintaining the efficiency of the output stage the current feedback from the output stage is taken via a step up transformer 25, giving the effect of a larger series resistor 19, so far as the voltage fed back is concerned, without lowering the efficiency of the output stage as by increasing the value of resistor 19 directly. The transformer may be a transmission line transformer.
