Abstract

In an hydraulic forming press having an expansible fluid pressure bag 58 located in a cavity 34 in a cylindrical body 12, stress concentrations in the body are minimized by a plurality of fluid pressure cylinder and piston devices 100, 102 which impart a radial reaction to portions of the body between the bag 58 and a work-supporting tray 42. The cylindrical body 12 comprises an inner cylinder 30 and a laminated outer cylinder 32 formed of sections welded together as at 35. The press comprises also rigid roof and floor members 36, 38 and 40. The cylinders 100 and the bag 58 are supplied with fluid under pressure by a pump and motor unit (20).
