Abstract

An electrical connector comprises a trough shaped metal crimping ferrule 4, the outer surface of which is covered with a film of insulating material, e.g. vulcanized paper, which extends into the ferrule and is gripped within the ferrule between portions of the ferrule to retain the film in position on the ferrule. As shown, the side walls of the ferrule have bent-in ribs 22 and struck-out tongues 27, which co-operate to grip film portions 28 which overlap the edges 30 of the ferrule. In use, two electrical wires 34 are positioned on edge portions 16 and 20 of tongues 10 which are struck from the base 8 of the ferrule. The connector is then crimped and the wires are forced into notches 12 in the tongues 10 so that their conductive cores 38 make contact with the walls of the notches (Fig. 3, not shown). The ribs 22 may be replaced by inwardly bent lugs (42, Fig. 4, not shown).
