Abstract

A core holder 10, designed to be joined to a similar holder to define an enclosure for a magnetic transducer, contains an insert 35 to locate and support a core piece, a slot 74 in the front wall 13 and a portion 53 of the insert defining a first reference plane for the core piece, and discontinuities 22, 23 in the side walls 11, 12 locating the insert and defining a second reference plane 81. As shown, a beryllium copper insert 35 is secured in a stamped brass housing 10 by riveting-over protrusions 29, 30 in the base. The insert has integral spring portions 58, 59 to locate half cores 71, 60 against lugs 53, 55 and sides 74, 75 of respective slots in the housing 10. Further slots 31, 65 in the housing and insert accommodate a magnetic screen while notches 32, 33 receive a terminal board. After fixing by adhesive, two such assemblies are lapped and secured together, e.g. by clips, then encased in a screening can having frontal apertures locating against tabs 27, 28. A modified insert (Fig. 8, not shown) of plastics is slotted to form the springs and location channels and is stuck in the housing.
