Abstract
An therapeutic preparation for injection comprises a sterile solution of the sodium salt of a conjugate of a polysaccharide containing acid groups and which forms a water-soluble sodium salt and a water-insoluble calcium salt and a biologically active substance containing basic amino or phenolic hydroxy groups to which it is linked via amide and/or ester linkages such that the final product still contains free acid groups and forms salts as defined above. Specified polysaccharides are pectin, pectic acid, alginic acid, celluronic acid, carageenan and lickerin uronic acid. Biologically active substances used in the examples are insulin, ovalbumin, timothy pollen extract, trypsin, cocksfoot pollen extract, ragweed pollen extract, diphtheria toxin, birch pollen extract, horse dander extract, cat epithalial extract, lactalbumin, haddock extract, dry rot extract, Baker's yeast extract, Naja-Naja venom, bee venom, tetanus toxoid, ficin and chymotrypsin. Reaction may be effected in aqueous solution using a coupling agent to form the amide and/or ester linkages.
