Abstract
A combustion gas generator comprises a shaft 11 supported in bearings 10 intermediate its ends, a first radial flow compressor rotor 16 and a second radial flow compressor rotor 17 mounted in back-to-back relationship at one end of the shaft, the compressors supplying air and dilution air respectively to a combustion chamber 20, the combustion gases from which pass to a turbine 12 mounted at the other end of the shaft the gases discharging from the turbine through duct 14 to a point of use. A carburetter 25 is disposed in the inlet duct 24 of the first compressor 16 so that a fuel and air mixture is supplied to the compressor, the mixture being discharged through a burner device 21 into the combustion chamber. In Fig. 1 the two compressor rotors are mounted in separate casings in back-to-back relation whereas in Fig.2 (not shown), the two compressor rotors are mounted back-to-back on a common disc. The dilution air delivered by compressor 17 passes through duct 22 to the combustion chamber. The diameter of the first compressor rotor is greater than that of the second rotor and the axial length of the first rotor is less than that of the second rotor.
