Abstract

A packaging machine producing a chain of filled bags having perforations between them (see Division B8) has means to sever bags successively from the chain by imparting a sudden movement to the lowermost bag and causing tearing along the perforation line. The bag chain is fed over a plate 107 at the lower end of which are pivoted fingers 103, 104. The plate is slidable along arms 100 by an air cylinder 108 and downward movement of the plate causes the fingers to pivot outwards at considerable speed to sever the lowermost bag from the chain.
