Abstract

Model vehicle track systems comprise tracks having a series of spaced substantially parallel conducting strips, alternate strips being electrically connected together and vehicles having at least three electrical collectors which are such. that when a vehicle is facing along the track or at a small angle to it at least one collector engages a strip of one set whilst at least one other collector engages a strip of the other set: across alternate strips there is applied a manually controlled composite voltage incorporating a driving component and a superimposed pulsed steering component and the vehicles have control circuits to separate out the two components which are then used for their respective purposes. The driving component may be A.C., D.C. or pulsed D.C. If the track has two or more vehicles the steering components for different vehicles will have different frequencies. The vehicle may be steered by moving the front wheels by disc brakes contacting the left and right hand wheels or by a shaft from the front wheels driven by the main motor which has a wheel on the end which pivots and may contact either rear wheel to cause a braking effect.. The vehicle may be driven and steered by having two motors, one on each rear wheel, the relative speeds of which are controlled by the steering component of the composite voltage. The adhesion of the vehicle is improved if the strips are ferromagnetic and the collectors are magnetic. The track may have side barriers which may be resilient or electrically energised.
